Working as Agents for Change

“It requires innovation and a willingness to try untested approaches with the understanding that some of our experiments will fail. It means a willingness to form partnerships among people and groups who do not usually cooperate. Something happens when groups of people come together, with results that are larger than the sum of the parts: emergence, a property of all living systems. None of us has the knowledge or resources to address sustainability issues alone.”

(Robertson, 2017)

A community of individuals is ideal for the sustainability movement. Working toward a more sustainable lifestyle takes more than one person doing the actions. If every human is able, they must cooperate in performing the duties we are obligated to do as human kind. Humans are damaging the environment more than any other living species and we must try to correct our mistakes by being mindful of the harmful effects the things we do daily can have on the Earth. Use solar panels when possible, encourage agricultural improvement methods, switching to new economic light bulbs and energy efficient machinery. We must make plans in our finances to upgrade our products to be high performing and produce less emissions.

“We have entered a period of unknown duration in which we can expect turbulence. Economic degrowth, extinctions, disappearing resources, and the nasty side effects of climate destabilization will be painful. We can expect conflicts and social disruption alongside the more pleasant aspects of transition”

(Robertson, 2017)

The climate change of nature can be very dangerous and can easily destruct our homes in many ways. Global warming is one example of the unpleasant disruption we encounter because of the effects of all our emissions we have created is doing. Global warming is creating dangerous weather conditions such as hurricanes and tornadoes. We must prepare for these natural disasters as well as act in a specific manner to prevent these acts of nature. We are not the only ones living on this earth, we have lots of wild life and different animals that call this planet their home. Our actions are causing populations of animals to move out of their origin or become extinct. We are not just making the change for ourselves.

“Find a place to stand. Choose what you love. Start from there, do what you can, and connect with others. Foresters have a saying: “The very best time to plant a tree is decades ago. The second best time is today” (Worldwatch Institute 2013, 83)”

(Robertson, 2017)

Choose to be environmentally friendly. Be kind to where you live and the conditions that could be prevented if people stopped the destruction before they happen. Must disasters cannot be prevented but there are some actions that we do that can decrease destruction by thinking things through with proper reasoning. We will not get another planet earth and we need to keep the earth in good shape for our future generations. People are the changing factor to the earth. The fate is in our hands to make a difference. We need to ensure we are planning. We need to pass on the earth with great pride as the previous generations have handed it to us. The earth should not be taken for granted. Humans have drifted away from the connection we used to have with our environment because of the new technological advancements. Our way of life is changing and we must adapt to the environments needs as a population.
